Steadfast Love

Writer's picture: Allison WilcoxAllison Wilcox

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,

    you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;

you stretch out your hand,

    and your right hand delivers me.

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;

    your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.

    Do not forsake the work of your hands. ~ Psalm 138:7-8

This sounds a lot like the more familiar Psalm 23.

Familiar words of comfort we've heard over and over again - often at funerals of loved ones.

When you hear these words, does that comfort wash over you? Or do you still find yourself worried about all the enemies of your life?

I know that the worry sometimes consumes me.

There will be times when life will be difficult. When it will be hard. When it will feel like enemies surround me.

But there promise is still there. God's love is steadfast.

I am not alone. I am God's, and I am loved. No enemy can take that from me.

Do not forsake me, Holy One. Remind me of your presence when I am at my lowest. Amen
